Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) have been successful in securing funding from the Department of Children Schools and Families (DCSF), South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) and English Heritage for the construction of a purpose built Language Immersion Centre, a County facility that will specialise in teaching rare languages. GCC have formed a partnership with several major stakeholders to include English Heritage, SWRDA and Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company (GHURC) to develop the Language Centre scheme on the Blackfriars historic site.
If planning consent is granted the Language Centre will be constructed on the former “Clutch Clinic” site following demolition of the existing buildings for which consent has already been obtained. This will then allow for a proposed build programme for commencement of construction in September 2010 with completion September 2011 and operational occupation of the Centre December 2011.
The design proposals have been sufficiently developed to invite comments from members of the public, residents, businesses and any other interested parties. To facilitate the consultation process a public display has been arranged at Brunswick Baptist Church, Southgate Street between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday 4th March 2010. This is a public open display and members of the Design and Project Team will be available to talk you through the proposals and answer any questions or queries you may have.
Following the public consultation process on the design proposals a planning
application will be submitted to Gloucestershire County Council Planning Authority during March 2010.
If the date of the public day is not convenient you can email your questions to:
vicky.browne@gloucestershire.gov.uk who will arrange a response to be returned as soon as possible.
