Blackfriars Priory Quarter
Blackfriars Priory Quarter is a key first stage of the developement of the Greater Blackfriars area - a comprehensive approach to 'heritage led regeneration'

Phase 1 Proposals
- North / East Range: flexible concert hall / performance / exhibition space
- South Range: learning and exhibition space
- Former clutch clinic site: 1,500sqm Language Immersion Centre, includes facilities for the entire Priory Quarter
- 11/17 LadybellegateStreet and 'British Legion' properties: developed for office / restaurant spaces
Committed funding:
- DCSF: £5m for language immersion centre
- South West RDA: £1.5m for priory quarter and £1.2m for property acquistions
- English Heritage: £400,000 committment sought
Phase 2 Proposals
- Barbican site: City Centre Police Station (see above)
- Multi-storey car park
- 4-star hotel (wrapped around the multi-storey carpark)
- Development of a new Urban Square
On-going Developments
• Language Immersion Centre planning application submitted to the County Council – due to be considered on 22nd July. Tenders received on 14th May for North Range works. Planning application for Fleece Hotel due to be submitted in July for a mix of uses including housing, hotel, restaurants, cafes and shops, designed by award winning architects Feilden Clegg Bradley.
Gloucester Heritage URC involved in development proposals for Blackfriars area. Operational brief completed by English Heritage for the North Range and priory quarter buildings. Interviews and presentations held for managing operator 13 May 2010
Detailed design work commenced on the North Range and the business plan for its operation is being finalised
Tenders received 14th May 2010 for work on the North Range
Work due to start on site June 2010

Planning application for Fleece Hotel due to be submitted in July for a mix of uses including housing, hotel, restaurants, cafes and shops, designed by award winning architects Feilden Clegg Bradley.

Strategy
The preparation of the Masterplan was facilitated by the Prince of Wales Regeneration Trust and was commended by CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) on the 7th October 2009
It was approved by the GHURC Board on the 14th October 2009 and the City Council on the 26th November 2009. It contains a detailed phased programme with the following outputs:
- a new concert hall for Gloucester
- a new 5,500sqm 4-star hotel
- 4,000sqm comparison retail
- 5,000sqm bars and restaurants
- 1,500sqm language teaching centre
- two complexes of historic buildings restored and reused
- 300 new homes
- 18,000sqm offices
- 1,500 new jobs
- eco Sculpture park
- Total investment £135m
