National Housebuilders, Linden Homes, were appointed in October 2008 as the HCA’s Development Partner and they are now undertaking a substantial public consultation and community engagement programme that will develop and shape a detailed planning application that will be submitted to the city council in early 2010.

Proposals for the Greyfriars site, will create a new residential neighbourhood of approximately 350 new family homes and apartments in a mix of styles and sizes, set alongside cafés, restaurants and community facilities. New public squares and open spaces set around the ruins of Greyfriars Priory and other nearby historic buildings will provide shoppers, tourists and residents alike with restful havens in the centre of the city.

Design proposals for the new front building

Linden Homes are presently undertaking preliminary design work in order that over the next 5 months they will be in a position to submit a comprehensive planning application for a mixed use redevelopment on the former GLOSCAT sites in Brunswick Road.

As part of that process we would very much welcome your initial views of this major regeneration process and the main design principals which underpin these initial sketches.

Have your say, you can use the comment facility at the end of this page or download and print a questionaire and sends it to us

  1. Is the regeneration of this site very important?
  2. Is a housing scheme including mixed uses such as cafes, bars, offices and retail the right approach?
  3. Is building for Community use incorporating a Doctors Surgery and Pharmacy important and would be used by the community?
  4. Is it important to accommodate some family houses rather than all apartments?
  5. Is it important to provide some affordable dwellings?
  6. The new buildings will vary in height up-to a maximum of 5 storeys. Is this is an acceptable maximum height?
  7. Should 1930’s Gloscat College building be demolished and replaced with a modern 21st century building or retained?
  8. Should the grassed space along Brunswick Road be retained and improved to create a green public space?
  9. Should the proposed scheme incorporate new public squares and sitting out places?
  10. The new architecture will be modern rather than traditional.  Is this the right approach for 21st Century Gloucester?
  11. Does the diagonal pedestrian route proposed through the site create an interesting view and is it a route which will be used?
