Best practice

Intended to examine best practice themes in urban regeneration and design that will provide direct comparisons with Gloucester and assist in the delivery of our vision for a Gloucester Renaissance as set out in the Regeneration Framework.

Best Practice Programme:
Feedback from the Holland visit

Members and advisors of the Design Review Panel, along with URC executives, and members of partner organisations visited Dutch cities (The Hague, Breda, Delft and Amsterdam) as part of the learning from Best Practice Programme between 9 11 October.

Dutch cities are internationally renowned for their successful historic streets and squares, and bold (and at times subtle) use of modern architecture in city extensions and regeneration areas.  The visiting group sought best practice examples of successful city squares, waterfront developments and mixed-use developments to help raise understanding of urban design techniques and approaches to enabling development.  The visit also sought to raise expectations of quality in development and streetscape interventions in Gloucester.

The trip was an excellent source of valuable case studies, some of which should be directly applicable to Gloucester’s regeneration.

Key lessons from the identified case studies were noted as potential exemplars for Gloucester’s Magnificent Seven regeneration schemes.
